Tales From The Crypt & Development

Over the years I've developed quite a taste for Cult Horror: Evil Dead, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tales from the Crypt. But never have I known that the majority of the material was written by blockbusting Hollywood superstars. Perhaps its because the production is horrible, or maybe cause the writing is sub-par, but I always assumed this was a train wreck production that all the bad writers worked on. Contrarily, after reading through the series filmography, I deduced that my conclusion was faulted. Consisting of big names such as: Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future), Tom Hanks (Band of Brothers), Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption), the series had a slew of the contemporary artists that the film community reveres today.
As such, let me funnel into my "blog-arc". Writers are often discouraged when they ask a friend to read their script and its returned with red ink plastered on every page. However, instead of getting upset, we as writers need to realize it will only aid our development. Zemeckis wasn't always Zemeckis, and Darabont drafted Shawshank more than one time. Therefore, when your screenplay, essay, column, or novel is returned to you with red ink painting the clean white pages remember one thing: its for your own good. If you don't believe me, go and watch some of the Tales from the Crypt productions, you can see where all the big names made their mistakes. Conclusively, the writing process is just that: a process, and part of the writing process is the learning process.
