At best it was a generic paint by numbers horror flick starring a large ensemble of characters you dont really care about and are only there to die off in gruesome ways. I honestly dont remember any of the characters, they were so one dimensional you were better off labeling them Scientist 1, or Bearded guy 2 than actually give them monikers. It really bothers me when a movie doesnt even take the time to develop its characters, especially in horror films. If we're supposed to spend time with them, and be on their side, we should at the very least get to know them, and add some depth to them.
Another thing that bothered me was how dumb it assumed its viewers were. Characters would state the obvious, or even worse state how they were feeling instead of actually showing it. We were given painfully obvious clues that blatantly gave away certain plot twists way before they actually came into play. Probably the worst part about the Thing was how it tried to tie itself in with Carpenter's film, but ultimately created a slew of plot holes, and pointless scenes that really cemented the fact that this movie was unnecessary from the start. I dont want to go into too many details, since the film is still in theaters, but honestly, you're better off avoiding it. The Thing is lazily written, lazily executed, and ultimately a disgrace to both the original and John Carpenter's remake.
