News Flash!

Being a producer for RCC's news program Inland Valley News meant I was responsible for one of the more important aspects of the show: the anchor script. I had been working on the script at the end of last spring as part of the class, but as a producer this semester it was a full time duty. The segment producers did write their own lead-ins for their packages, but there were times (many of them) when I had to step in and make a few edits or entirely revise the lead-in. I have to congratulate Ron from our class who had some of the better lead ins, but some required a total rewrite. Some were an issue of tone. I remember one I received unwittingly talked down the event being covered. Some were full of tacky and needless puns. Others were not grammatical cogent and need to be rewritten. The end product always needed to be perfect, but I made sure to shake up some stale formulaic writing from previous years with fresh new wording. It was cool seeing my script be performed by out talent, but hearing it over again in post production was less fun.
